ChatGPT Ads Are Coming to Switzerland: Is Your Website Ready?

Since August 24, 2026, ChatGPT Ads have also been available in Switzerland. This creates a new advertising channel for businesses, but one that works very differently from traditional search or social media advertising. Before an ad even appears, the user may already have explained what they are looking for, what matters to them and which constraints they are dealing with. For businesses, that means not only the advertising changes. The website users land on after the click has to change as well.

What Makes Advertising in ChatGPT Different?

Someone looking for a new coffee machine on Google might search for terms such as “best coffee machine” or “buy espresso machine”. In ChatGPT, the same search can start with far more detail. A user might explain that they have limited kitchen space, mostly drink espresso, do not want to spend more than CHF 800 and want to avoid a machine that is difficult to clean.

At that point, ChatGPT does not just know a keyword. It understands a large part of the context behind the purchase decision. That is exactly the environment in which ads can now appear. For advertisers, this is interesting because the user may already be considerably further along in their decision-making process than someone carrying out a traditional search.

The more precise the context before the click, the less generic the experience afterwards can be.

That creates a new challenge. The ad is no longer necessarily the beginning of the research journey. It may appear in the middle of an already advanced decision process. As a result, expectations for the website that follows are automatically higher.

What Happens After the Click?

Imagine a user has just spent several minutes explaining exactly what they need. They have compared options, asked follow-up questions and gradually narrowed down their choice. They then click on a relevant ad and arrive on a generic homepage with statements such as “Welcome to Company XY”, “Your trusted partner since 1997” or “Quality, innovation and proximity”.

The context is almost completely lost.

This is likely to become one of the biggest differences between successful and unsuccessful ChatGPT Ads campaigns. A user arriving from a highly specific conversation expects the same level of relevance on the website. The landing page needs to continue the need that was expressed earlier instead of taking the user back to the very beginning of the customer journey.

Do ChatGPT Ads Need Different Landing Pages?

Not necessarily completely different ones, but most likely more specific ones.

We already know this principle from effective Google Ads campaigns. An ad for a specific service should not simply point to the homepage. It should lead to a page that directly reflects the promise made in the ad. With ChatGPT, that continuity becomes even more important because the user may already have expressed a highly specific requirement before clicking.

If a business serves different audiences, industries or use cases, its website should be able to reflect those differences clearly. Instead of one generic service page, more targeted landing pages for specific sectors, problems or needs may become much more effective.

That is not because ChatGPT requires a particular website structure. It is simply because the user arrives with a much more precise expectation.

Do Website Contents Need to Become More Detailed?

Very likely.

A polished product page with a headline, three benefits and a contact form is not always enough to support a decision. Users need concrete information. What exactly is being offered? Who is it suitable for? Which variations exist? How do they differ? What conditions apply? Which problems does the offer actually solve?

The same information is also becoming more valuable for search engines and AI systems. Businesses should therefore think less of their websites as digital brochures and more as structured sources of knowledge about their own products and services.

A website increasingly needs to do two things at once: convince people and structure information clearly enough for machines to understand it reliably.

That does not mean producing more text for the sake of it. Quite the opposite. It means answering the right questions precisely and organising information so that both humans and machines can understand it quickly.

Why Website Structure Matters Even More

Alongside content depth, the technical and semantic structure of the website is becoming more important as well.

Products, services, prices, features, FAQs, reviews and other important information should be described as clearly as possible and, where appropriate, marked up in a structured way. This goes far beyond ChatGPT Ads. Google is moving in the same direction with AI Overviews and increasingly conversational search experiences, while AI systems are relying more heavily on web content to formulate answers and recommendations.

A website therefore needs to be readable on two levels. It has to be clear and convincing for users, while also being structured well enough for systems to interpret the information accurately.

This is not an entirely new discipline. The principles of good SEO, sound information architecture and structured data remain the same. Their importance is simply increasing.

Can Conversions from ChatGPT Ads Be Measured?

Yes. This is already possible.

OpenAI provides advertisers with its own Web Pixel as well as a Conversions API. These tools make it possible to measure what happens after someone clicks on a ChatGPT ad. Depending on the business model, this might include a purchase, a lead, a registration or another important action.

ChatGPT Ads is therefore evolving into a genuine performance marketing channel. For businesses, this also means the technical preparation of the website needs to be considered from the beginning. Conversion events need to be defined correctly, tracking needs to be implemented properly and privacy and consent processes need to be reviewed.

Existing analytics tools can also continue to be used. Tracking parameters such as UTMs make it possible to analyse ChatGPT traffic separately and compare it with other channels.

What Should Businesses Actually Change on Their Websites?

There is no need to rebuild an entire website specifically for ChatGPT Ads. However, several areas are worth reviewing before launching a campaign.

Landing pages are the most obvious starting point. Every campaign should lead to a page that continues the context and expectation created by the ad. Products and services also need to be described more concretely than they are on many traditional corporate websites. Generic marketing statements add limited value for both people and AI systems.

Information architecture matters just as much. Different offers, audiences and use cases should be clearly separated and logically connected. Where relevant structured data exists, key information should also be marked up technically. On top of that, conversion tracking should be coordinated across OpenAI Pixel, Conversions API and the analytics systems already in use.

Speed and mobile usability remain essential as well. Someone moving from a highly relevant AI conversation to a website expects an equally smooth experience.

The interesting part is that none of these improvements benefit ChatGPT Ads alone. A website that meets these requirements will usually perform better for Google Ads, SEO, AI Search and traditional users too.

Is the Role of the Website Changing Too?

In our view, yes.

Over the past few years, one question has come up repeatedly: will AI systems make websites less important? After all, users increasingly receive answers directly in Google or ChatGPT without necessarily visiting a website.

ChatGPT Ads point towards a different development. Research may increasingly happen inside an AI system, but the actual conversion still very often happens on the company website. The user compares options, gathers information and clarifies their needs in ChatGPT. When they are ready to buy, get in touch, book a demo or register, the website becomes central again.

Research can increasingly happen inside an AI system. The actual conversion still very often happens on the website.

The role of the website therefore changes. It no longer needs to restart the entire research journey from zero. Instead, it needs to help an already informed user move seamlessly to the next step. That makes precision, relevance and conversion logic more important than ever.

From Keywords to Context

This may be the biggest shift of all.

Traditional performance marketing is largely built around keywords, audiences and interests. Conversational systems have access to far richer context. Users do not just explain what they are looking for. They often explain why they need it, which constraints they face and which criteria matter most in their decision.

That raises the bar for businesses as well. A generic ad that leads to a generic landing page makes very little use of that context. A business that clearly understands the problems it solves, explains them properly on its website and sends users to the right page can gain a real advantage in this new advertising environment.

Conclusion: ChatGPT Ads Are a Website Topic Too

With ChatGPT Ads, a new performance marketing channel is emerging in Switzerland. Businesses should not only think about campaigns, creatives and budgets. What happens after the click is at least as important.

The better ChatGPT understands a user's intent, the higher that user's expectations will be for the website they land on. Clear landing pages, precise information, strong information architecture, structured content management and reliable conversion tracking therefore become even more important.

You do not need a separate “ChatGPT website”. You need a website that genuinely understands its users and their needs.

And fundamentally, that has always been the foundation of good web design.
